This specimen was lot 24531 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Reza Pahlavi gold Pahlavi 1310SH (1931), AU55 NGC, an attractive example of this rare type with sharp features and full mint brilliance. Only 304 minted, and just a handful have survived." The Pahlavi, named after the family of the dynasty's founder, Reza Shah, was first struck in 1926 (KM 111) but the first issues were only 1.92 g. In 1931 the system was reformed and the new pahlavi matched the British sovereign in gold content. This rare date was the first of many.
