Sincona sale 79, lot 1265

This specimen was lot 1265 in Sincona sale 79 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. 1/2 Guinea 1745, London. Intermediate laureate head. NGC AU Details. Lightly cleaned." This bust was used on the half guinea 1740 and 1745-46. Half guineas of 1745 exist with "LIMA" below the bust (Fr-348); those bring double the price of the plain type shown here. Guineas were superseded by sovereigns during the reform of 1817.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.17 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 4.15 g.

Catalog reference: KM 580.1, Spink 3683. Bull 646. Fr-347.
