This specimen was lot 24097 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Shilling 1859, Young Head, MS65 PCGS, a gem example with a nice sharp strike, smooth satiny luster, and lovely light silvery gold iridescence. Never dipped, totally original, and especially nice for the numerical grade given by PCGS; in fact, it's about as fine as we have seen." This shilling was struck 1838-87 for circulation.
Recorded mintage: 4,562,000 (highest mintage between 1839 and 1871).
Specification: 5.65 g, .925 fine silver, .042 troy oz ASW.
