Sincona sale 51, lot 2589

This specimen was lot 2589 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$724 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Victoria, 1837-1901. Sovereign 1859, London. Young head. PCGS MS62. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (kingdom of Great Britain, Victoria, 1837-1901, sovereign of 1859, London mint, young head. Extraordinary condition, uncirculated.)"

This bust was used on the sovereign, or one pound coin, 1838-64 with a slightly modified type (KM 736.2) extending until 1874.

Recorded mintage: 2,204,000.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
