Sincona sale 9, lot 3730

This specimen was lot 3730 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, October 2012), where it sold for 8,000 CHF (about US$10,118 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Braunschweig-Lüneburg, Herzogtum Wolfenbüttel. Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. Taler 1633, Zellerfeld. Ausbeute der Grube St. Jakob in Lautenthal. Äusserst selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Frederick Ulrich, 1613-34, thaler of 1633, Zellerfeld mint, for the Lauthenthal mines, very rare, choice extremely fine.)"

This thaler is listed for 1633-34. The year 1633 saw the issue of other mining thalers (Dav-6309 and -6310) as well as the regular "wild man" thaler (Dav-6307).

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
