Japan 1877 (M10) sen

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This type was struck 1873-77 in large numbers and is common in circulated condition. It varied from the later type (KM Y17.2) of 1880-92 in the shape of the scales on the dragon's body. This weight standard was used until 1915.

Recorded mintage: 98,041,824.

Specification: 7.13 g, copper, 27.9 mm diameter.
