This specimen was lot 71151 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. Sen, Year 13 (1880). PCGS MS-64 BN Secure Holder. Sharply struck, with nearly flawless obverse. Medium brown patina." This type was struck 1880-88 in large numbers and is common in circulated condition. A nearly identical type with different dragon scales was issued 1873-77.

Recorded mintage: 33,947,810.

Specification: 7.13 g, copper, 27.9 mm diameter.
