Künker sale 335, lot 4159

This specimen was lot 4159 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,701 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"MÜNSTER, STADT. 1/2 Taler 1534. Wiedertäufer. RR Schöne Patina, Henkelspur, sehr schön. Geisberg hält den Taler mit gleicher Umschrift für eine Nachprägung. Stilistisch würde das Stück zeitlich nach 1534, aber vor den Prägungen von J. Potthoff (b. 1607) und E. Ketteler (um 1640) einzuordnen sein. Als Halbtaler ist das hier angebotene Stück anscheinend nicht ediert, die beiden von Geisberg beschriebenen Exemplare haben andere Umschriften. (Germany, city of Munster, half thaler of 1534. Issued by the Anabaptists, this variety is unpublished in Geisberg. It may have been struck later than the date shown but definitely before 1640. Rare, nice patina, mount mark, very fine.)"
