This specimen was lot 672 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Munster. Cathedral Chapter. Taler, 1534-K. NGC MS-62. Restrike ca. 1640. Sharp, deep strike. Beautifully toned with vibrant cobalt and plum hues throughout. Very strong underlying luster making for a very attractive piece. From the Rockaway Collection." The original "Anabaptist" thaler was struck in the city of Munster in 1534 during the attempt to establish a communal sectarian government there. Note the absence of any reference to Franz von Waldeck, prince-bishop of Münster. This thaler was struck later as a souvenir.
