This specimen was lot 2285 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$899 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY | Empire | Kleinmünzen des Kaiserreichs, 5 Pfennig 1889 A, Berlin. Probe in Kupfer mit glattem Rand. Äusserst selten. NGC MS65 BN. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (German Empire, small change, five pfennig of 1889, Berlin mint, pattern struck in copper with plain edge. Extremely rare, Magnificent condition.)"
The regular copper-nickel five pfennig was struck 1874-76 and 1888-89 and is common. This pattern doesn't seem to be listed in the SCWC.

Specification: regular issue 2.5 g, copper-nickel, 18 mm diameter. This specimen is copper, 1.97 g.
