Sincona sale 95, lot 4256

This specimen was lot 4256 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$208 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Quarts (1/2 Sol oder 6 Deniers) 1730, Genf. Silberabschlag. Selten. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion NGSA 18, Genf, November 2022, Los 2372. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, two quarts or half sol or six deniers, Geneva mint, struck in silver. Rare, About Very Fine.)"

This type is listed in the SCWC for 1720-22 and 1725-30 as a six deniers. As the denomination is not marked on the coin, it is a debate not amenable to resolution. This is a common date. One thaler was 96 sols and one sol was four quarts.

Record mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.8 g, silver or billon, this specimen silver, 0.98 g.

Catalog reference: KM 65 (billon) or 65a (silver), Demole 107. D.T. 1024g, Anm. Richter (Proben) 1-336, HMZ 2-351k, Anm.
