Sincona sale 87, lot 4247

This specimen was lot 4247 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Eidgenossenschaft, 2 Franken 1894 A, Paris. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (confederation of Switzerland, two francs of 1894, Paris mint. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"

This type was struck at the Bern mint starting in 1874 and the design is still in use today tho the coin is now nickel. The Paris mint contributed one and two francs in 1894. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French two francs of 1866-1920.

Recorded mintage: 700,000 plus specimens, a common date prior to 1920.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, 27.4 mm diameter, this specimen 10.00 g.
