St. Gall 1781 15 kreuzer

Sincona sale 63, lot 3582

This specimen was lot 3582 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,258 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | St. Gallen | St. Gallen, Abtei. Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796. 15 Kreuzer 1781, Münzstätte des Klosters. Selten. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (abbey of St. Gall, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-96, fifteen kreuzer of 1781, struck within the abbey. Rare, About uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"

Fifteen kreuzer made one quarter of a gulden. This example exceeded the catalog value by a substantial margin.
