This specimen was lot 3510 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,907 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ St. Gallen, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796. Halbgulden (30 Kreuzer) 1781, Münzstätte des Klosters. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of St. Gall, Very rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The abbey struck coins until 1783; the city continued coinage after the French occupation until confederation. This type was struck 1781 and 1796 and is rather expensive. The canton of St. Gall issued almost no coinage between 1739 and 1786.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver or billon, this specimen 7.35 g.

Catalog reference: KM 36, D.T. 851a, HMZ 2-870a.
