Sincona sale 68, lot 5279

This specimen was lot 5279 in Sincona sale 68 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 15,000 CHF (about US$19,748 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Geneva | Stadt und Kanton, Dukat 1650 M, Genf. Verziertes Quadrat mit Inschrift und Jahreszahl. Rv. gekrönter Doppeladler mit dem Genfer Wappen auf der Brust. Äusserst selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city and canton of Geneva, ducat of 1650, Geneva mint. Obverse: rectangular tablet with city name and date; reverse: double-headed eagle with the city arms on the breast. Extremely rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1644-54, 1657 and 1677, and all dates are rare.
