This specimen was lot 1275 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles III, 1771 JM, third bust, very rare, NGC AU details / cleaned, ex-Almenara. Rather lustrous and deeply impressed in light yellow gold but with parts of bust weak or worn, only very faintly hairlined, featuring a hybrid bust unique to this mint showing early armor and drapery but older head (note that KM does not distinguish the traditional "rat nose" type from this new third bust). Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." The "rat nose" bust of the king was used 1763-71 with the bust slightly modified in 1768 to make the king look older.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine gold.
