Steve Album sale 51, lot 301

This specimen was lot 301 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mehmet V, 1909-1918, AR 10 kurush, Manastir, AH1327 year 3, mint visit issue, mintage of only 1,500 pieces, a fantastic mint state example of this rare type, PCGS graded MS62." Early in his reign, the sultan toured some of the cities of his domain. Presumably, the construction of railroads made this less arduous than in generations past. On the occasion of his visit to Manastir (now Bitola in Macedonia), commemorative two, five, ten (shown here), fifty and 100 kuruş were minted and distributed.

Recorded mintage: 1,500.

Specifications: 12.02 g, 0.830 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-804.
