SB824-45905r.jpg

This specimen was lot 45905 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Bronze Medallic 10 Centimes, 1854. Paris Mint. Napoleon III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. By Barre. Commemorating the visit of the Emperor & Empress to the Bourse at Lille, 23-24 September. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This medallic coinage was struck in bronze (shown here), silver and gold. Doubtless the emperor himself received the gold specimens. These were made in Paris even though a perfectly adequate mint was sited in Lille. No mintmark appears on the coins themselves.

Recorded mintage: unknown plus more in silver and gold.

Specification: 10 g, bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-M23, Maz-1754B.
