Revision as of 09:27, 17 December 2024
This specimen was lot 1107 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €26,400 (about US$29,257 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Beautiful Choice Mint State Ducat with Rich Luster, DENMARK. Ducat, 1681. Copenhagen Mint. Christian V. NGC MS-63. Mintmaster: Gregorius Sesemann (GS). EXTREMELY RARE, this gorgeous Choice Mint State Ducat yields handsome eye appeal, with bright and shimmering brilliance. An entrancing mirrorlike appearance besets the surfaces, allowing one to catch much reflectivity. This allure is not dampened by excess hits or handling, and the commendably engraved details are well struck. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922)."
This type is also noted for 1683.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.49 g, 0.979 fine gold, this specimen 3.45 g.
