This specimen was lot 957 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$492 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Altenburg, Herzogtum Ernst, 1853-1908. 5 Mark 1903, Berlin. Zum 50jährigen Regierungsjubiläum. Kl. Kr. Fast FDC. (Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, Ernest I, 1853-1908, five mark of 1903, Berlin mint, on his fiftieth jubilee as duke. Light hairlines, nice uncirculated.)"
Saxe-Altenburg, one of the smaller subdivisions of Thuringia, issued few coins during the Empire period (1871-1918). This, tho not common, is the most available.
Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus 300 proofs.
