This specimen was lot 4605 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 46,000 CHF (about US$61,562 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND Basel, 3 Dukaten 1740, Basel. Geprägt mit den Stempeln des Vierteltalers. Stempel von Johann Jakob Handmann. *DOMINE. CONSERVA. NOS. IN. PACE. Nach l. gewandter Basilisk hält ovales, verziertes Baslerwappen links. Rv. Die acht Vogteiwappen und BASILEA über der Stadtansicht mit Rheinbrücke in der Mitte, im Abschnitt die Jahreszahl über Füllhorn und Lorbeerzweig, sowie H (Johann Jakob Handmann). Äusserst selten. NGC MS61 PL. Prachtvoller Erstabschlag. Aus Auktion Bank Leu vom 23.10.2001, Lot 590. (canton of Basel, triple ducat of 1740, Basel mint, struck with quarter thaler dies. Dies by Johann Jakob Handmann. Obverse: a basilisk facing left supports the city arms; reverse: BASILEA over a city view with the Rhine bridge in the center, date, cornucopia and laurel branch in the exergue. Extremely rare. Magnificent specimen strike.)"
