Iran AH 1318 10 toman KM-998

Sincona sale 85, lot 1102

This specimen was lot 1102 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muzaffar al-Din Shah, 1313-1324 AH (1896-1907). 10 Tomans 1318 AH (1900/1901 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Extremely rare. NGC MS61. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 140. From the Mortimer Hammel collection, Stacks, New York, 1982. Finest certified by NGC."

This ten toman is very similar to a ten toman listed for AH 1314. That issue comes in two varieties; KM 998, with the shah sporting a full mustache, and KM 999, with his mustache visible only on one side of his face. This example is similar enough to KM 998 that it is likely the same die was used.
