Sincona sale 88, lot 205

This specimen was lot 205 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,454 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Naser al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 (1848-1896). Toman 1271 AH (1855), Qazvin Mint. Sehr seltener Typ; Very rare type. NGC MS63. Purchased from Münzen & Medaillen Basel, Basel, in 1989."

This gold denomination was struck at numerous mints in the beginning of the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah. It is listed from Qazvin for AH 1265-1273 and 1280-1281. This example realized six times the catalog value.
