from Sedwick Treasure Auction 21, lot 1468

This specimen was lot 1468 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guatemala, bust 4 reales, Charles IV, 1804M, ex-Richard Stuart. Lustrous AU- with light steely toning over surface hairlines from cleaning, parts of rims crude (as made). Pedigreed to the Richard Stuart collection." This type is listed for 1790-1808 and is the most common colonial four reales from Guatemala. Unlike contemporary Mexican issues, Guatemala four reales are more available than the eight reales.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.53 g, 0.896 fine silver, .399 troy oz ASW, this specimen 13.45 grams.

Catalog reference: Cayón-13790, CT-795; KM-52.
