Guatemala 1803-NG M 4 reales
This specimen was lot 34114 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted,
"GUATEMALA. 4 Reales, 1803-NG M. Nueva Guatemala Mint. Charles IV. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Nicely preserved and quite attractive, this handsome example displays lovely mottled gray patina with richer coloration near the edges and amongst the devices. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning, now subdued by the pleasant toning. Despite its shortcomings, this high-grade example is far nicer than normally encountered and an excellent representative of the type. From the Pat Johnson Collection."
This type was struck 1791-1808 for Charles IV and the four reales are actually slightly more common than the eight reales. Assayer M is recorded for 1786-1823.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.896 fine silver.
