Bavaria 1888-D 10 mark

Sincona sale 23, lot 2296

This specimen was lot 2296 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$440 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Bayern, Königreich, Otto, 1886-1913 10 Mark 1888. München Gutes sehr schön. (kingdom of Bavaria, Otto (1886-1913), ten mark of 1888, Munich mint, good very fine.)"

This one year type is not rare but is scarce compared to the type of 1890-1900 which used a modified reverse. The ten mark is quite a bit more affordable than the twenty mark. King Otto ruled under a regency for his entire reign.

Recorded mintage: 281,259 plus a few proofs.
