This specimen was lot 3882 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $368. The catalog description [2] noted, "German States - Baden. 10 Marks, 1901-G. Friedrich I, 1852-1907. NGC graded AU-58." Altho Baden was not a major issuer of coins prior to unification, its issues during the Empire (1871-1918) were substantial. The Baden mint at Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") struck minor coins during the Empire and afterward until today. This type was struck 1890-1901 and is common in circulated condition.
Recorded mintage: 91,000.
Specification: 3.98 g, .900 fine gold, .115 troy oz AGW.
