Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3261

This specimen was lot 3261 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 23 € (about US$30 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Egipto. AH 1393/1973. 1 libra. Presa de Aswan. AG. S/C- [about uncirculated]." During 1958-1971, Egypt was joined officially with Syria as the 'United Arab Republic'. Nasser's sudden death in 1970 sent a shock thru Egypt similar to the assassination of president Kennedy in 1963. The alliance with Syria did not last long, and the title was abandoned in 1971 during a purge of the Egyptian political system by Anwar Sadat.

Recorded mintage: 50,000.

Specifications: 25 g, 0.720 fine silver, 40 mm diameter, this specimen 25,08 g.

Catalog reference: KM 439.
