This specimen was lot 20941 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "William IV Proof Crown 1831, tiny incuse "W.W.", plain edge, coin-rotation die alignment, PR62 NGC, a second piece, virtually identical to the last except for having a uniform medium gray toning with a bit of reddish blue iridescence, which obscures any frosting on the portrait and thus it is not designated as cameo. If you are a collector of crowns, your selection from this reign is limited to the proofs struck for and surrounding the Coronation." This rare coin is the only crown for William IV and is priced accordingly.
Recorded mintage: 100 proofs.
Specification: 28.27 g, .925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: S-3833, KM 715 (unlisted in Davenport).
