Sincona sale 84, lot 169

This specimen was lot 169 in Sincona sale 84 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$5,117 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Poltina 1796, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB IS. 3.5 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. Good extremely fine. Extraordinary condition."

This type was struck 1785-87, 1791 and 1794-96. The 1796 is the most common date of a scarce type.

Recorded mintage: 270,000.

Specification: 12 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 11.67 g.
