This specimen was lot 39335 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1664-P. Philip IV (1621-65). NGC VF-30. Bold four digit date. Second to last year for the type and a better date according to Calico. Clear date, mint mark and assayer initials on a broad generally round flan. A truly superior example compared to other surviving specimens, and sporting original surfaces that have never seen saltwater. Pedigree: From the David O'Harrow Collection." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1621-67. Specimens with clear dates are unusual. In 1728, cobs were debased from .931 to 0.917 fine silver.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 grams, 0.931 fine silver, .810 troy oz ASW, this specimen 27.1 g.
