This specimen was lot 143 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 320 euro (about US$507 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"1775. Lima. MJ. 8 reales. Bella. Rara así. EBC/EBC+. (eight reales of 1774, Lima mint. Attractive, rare thus, choice extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1772-89 for Charles III and supplanted the pillar dollar. A slight debasement accompanied the design change.
Recorded mintage: 4,276,000.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
