This specimen was lot 4183 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $270.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Reales, 1775-MJ. Charles III (1759-88). NGC VG-08. VERY RARE. 'GARTIA' legend error. Very interesting and significant." This type is listed for Peru 1772-89 and is quite scarce, even without mentioning the error in the obverse legend. The fineness was lowered from .903 to .896 in 1785.
