This specimen was lot 71315 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. 1/4 Ducato, ND (1796-97)-FB. Ludovico Manin. PCGS MS-62. Crisply struck from finely engraved dies that portray intricate detail in the Lion of St. Mark. The flan is very well centered and shows no splitting beyond the denticles. Richly toned violet gray and ambergris, surfaces are original, exhibiting no handling nor any sign of hairlines. Luster is inherent, glimmering in the fields, yet the scarcity alone of this Mint State piece will be more than enough to draw attention of specialists." This is the final issue of this denomination. In 1797, Napoleon traded Venice to Austria in exchange for Milan; nobody bothered to consult the Italians. The SCWC depicts many minor coins from this state which almost never seen.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.38 g, .826 fine silver, 29 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-738; C-131.
