Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71439
SB1122-71439r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71439 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 50 Centavos, 1864/3-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. KM-134. This 50 Centavos piece has lost some of its finer detailing due to circulation and cleaning, but it nonetheless presents handsomely with even surfaces and attractive cabinet toning. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This fifty centavo piece was minted in Santiago in 1863-67. This condor also appeared on half décimos, décimos and twenty centavos coins of the 1860's. The high relief led to weak strikes on the condor's body and the relief was lowered in 1867. The overdate shown here is mentioned in the SCWC but is awarded no premium.

Recorded mintage: 68,000.

Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-134.
