The first specimen was lot 71438 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 50 Centavos, 1863/2-So. Santiago Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Although it exhibits cleaned surfaces, this well-preserved 50 Centavos piece offers attractive mottled toning with a slight rosy sheen. An appealing example of the type. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This fifty centavo piece was minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1863-67. This condor also appeared on half decimos, décimos and twenty centavos coins of the 1860's. The high relief led to weak strikes on the condor's body and the relief was lowered in 1867. Overdates (1863/2) are reported.

Recorded mintage: 80,000.

Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-134.
