This type was struck 1937-46 in substantial numbers and is common today; even the proofs (shown here) are readily available. This type was the last silver half crown issued for circulation; the half crown of 1949-67 was copper-nickel. The reverse design was carried over unchanged from the George V half crown of 1927-36. The next date with a substantial number of proofs struck was 1950.

Recorded mintage: 9,106,000 plus 26,000 proofs.

Specification: 14.14 g, 0.500 fine silver, .227 troy oz ASW, 32.3 mm diameter, designed by T. H. Paget and George Krueger-Gray.
