This specimen was lot 71545 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1996. Llantrisant Mint. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. Untouched, this example displays full frost on the designs and endless reflectivity in the fields. Tied with a mere 15 others for this ultimate grade at NGC." This type was struck 1985-97 for sale to collectors and did not circulate altho some show signs of mishandling.
Recorded mintage: 7,500.
Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
