This specimen was lot 2113 in Goldberg sale 122 (Los Angeles, June 2021), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxe-Weimar. 1/24 Taler (Groschen), 1665. Johann Ernst II. Death of Eleonora Dorothea. Widow of Wilhelm IV. Arms from clouds holding crown above heart with JESUS inscribed. Reverse: Seven line inscription with dates. NGC graded AU-53." Saxe-Neu-Weimar was one of the splinter states erected during one of the many divisions of Saxony in the seventeenth century. The line went extinct in 1741 and passed to Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. This commemorative was issued on the death of the duke's mother. It was accompanied by a quarter thaler (KM 91), half thaler (KM 92) and thaler (KM 93/Dav-7551).
