from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70542
Hannover SB518-70542r.jpg

This specimen was lot 70542 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg. 2/3 Taler, 1686. Ernst August (1679-98). PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. Decent strike and even gray toning on both sides." This type was struck 1680-93 but despite the extensive production, it has a high catalog value. Another two-thirds thaler exists with a leaping stallion design (KM 315), struck 1685-88.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-262.1.
