This specimen was lot 731 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, cob 1 real, 1689 R+V, unique(?), ex-Ugaz. Very bold full cross-lions-castles and pillars-and-waves, thin flan with small part of edge broken off long ago, two dates, assayer V twice on pillars side but clear assayer R to right of cross (first we have seen or heard of), full (C)AROLVS II in legend, deeply toned VF+. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." The regime in Madrid finally permitted the viceroy in Lima to reopen the mint in 1684. This type was struck 1684-1701 for the degenerate Charles II. Assayer R is listed for 1685-91. Assayer V is also known for this date, which likely explains why both letters appear on this coin.

This specimen was lot 731 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1689 R+V, unique(?), ex-Ugaz.
