SB1122-71417r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71417 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 4 Reales, 1797-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. PCGS VF-25. A pleasing example of this SCARCE issue. The surfaces are deeply toned to an even matte gray. The gently worn devices are crisp and attractive, paired with smooth fields. Minor die faults and trivial surface marks are noted, but easily overlooked. This wholesome piece is an excellent representative of the type. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was issued from Santiago 1792-1808 and is scarce. Assayer DA is listed for 1772-99.

Recorded mintage: 12,000.
