Austria 1741 thaler Dav-1109

Sincona sale 18, lot 3095

This specimen was lot 3095 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 350 (about US$461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Taler 1741. Wien. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Austria, thaler of 1741, Vienna mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This thaler was issued at Vienna 1741-44. In the opening years of Maria Theresia's reign, she was fighting Frederick the Great's conquest of Silesia and revolt in Hungary. Many of the thalers issued during her reign would feature her husband, Francis of Lorraine, who was crowned Holy Roman Emperor.

Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
