This type was struck 1949 and 1952 only but is not rare. Cents were struck for Mauritius 1911-78. Larger denominations, including the quarter, half and one rupee were not struck for Mauritius until 1934. Smaller denominations had been minted as far back as the 1870's. The island remained under British rule until 1968 and part of the Commonwealth until 1978.
Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 1.95 g, bronze, 17.8 mm diameter.
