Sincona sale 50, lot 1074

This specimen was lot 1074 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 6,000 CHF (about US$7,237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Württemberg, Herzogtum. Eberhard Ludwig, 1693-1733. Taler 1694. Stempel von J.D. Daniel. EBERH.LUD-D.G.DUX WURTEMB• Brustbild mit Allongeperücke im römischen Harnisch und umhängenden Mantel nach rechts. Rv. *+CUM DEO ET DIE+* Das quadrierte Wappen unter Fürstenhut, darunter die geteilte Jahreszahl und die Signatur des Münzmeisters Johann Jakob Wagner. Mit Randschrift: „+DES+HOCHSTEN+HAND+SEZT+ALLE+ LAND+ IN+SICHREN +STAND“. Selten. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. Der erste Württemberger Taler mit Randschrift. (Germany, duchy of Württemberg, Eberhard Louis, 1693-1733, thaler of 1694, dies by J. D. Daniel. Obverse: cuirassed, mantled bust with long hair to right; reverse: capped and quaartered arms, date and minmaster's initials below. Rare, Magnificent condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated, the first thaler from Wurttemberg with edge lettering.)"

This rare type was accompanied by KM 261 (quarter thaler), KM 263 (half thaler), KM 268 (ducat), KM 269 (double ducat), Dav-7879 (double thaler), -7881 (single thaler), and -7882 (single thaler) for 1694. Wurttemberger coinage prior to the 1730's is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few.
