Sincona sale 94, lot 2284

This specimen was lot 2284 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 60 CHF (about US$83 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 10 Kreuzer 1870 KB, Kremnitz. Nachprägung mit vierblättriger Rosette am Beginn der Vorderseitenumschrift. PCGS PR66. (Austro-Hungarian empire, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ten kreuzer of 1870, Kremnitz mint. Restrike with four-leaf rosette at the beginning of the obverse legend.)"

This type was issued 1870-77 and 1887-88 from the Kremnitz (Komoczbanya in Magyar) mint during the reign of Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria-Hungary. It superseded a similar type with the "B" mintmark struck until 1867. After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. In the aftermath of World War One, the Hapsburg monarchy collapsed and Hungary became independent but without its former territories in Slovakia, Transylvania and Croatia.
