Sincona sale 86, lot 1790

This specimen was lot 1790 in Sincona sale 86 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,693 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Elizabeth II. 1952-2022. 5 Pounds 2009, Royal Mint Llantrisant. 39.93 g. Fourth bust. Selten. Nur 1'000 Exemplare geprägt, Mit Originaletui und Zertifikat, Rare. Only 1,000 pieces struck. NGC MS68 DPL. With original box and certificate. No. 505 of maximum 1,000 limited edition presentation sets."

According to the SCWC, this type was struck 2009-2011 but later dates are known. Other five pound coins for 2009 included KM 1118 (Henry VIII), KM 1121 (Olympics), KM 1140 (Olympics), KM 1141 (Olympics), KM 1142 (Olympics), KM 1143 (Olympics), KM 1144 (Olympics) and KM 1145 (Olympics).

Recorded mintage: 1,000 plus 1,750 proofs.

Specification: 39.94 g, 0.917 fine gold, 36 mm diameter.
