from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10084
SB225-10084r.jpg

This specimen was lot 10084 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €1,140 (about US$1,188). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 8 Skilling, 1606. Copenhagen Mint. Christian IV. NGC EF-45. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1606-09 and was worth one twelfth speciedaler. Undated versions exist. Another mark struck in 1606 (KM 31) featured the royal arms on the obverse. Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but only moderately successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.92 g, 0.888 fine silver, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-32; Hede-93A; Sieg-54.1; Schou-8; Bruun-4709.
