Schulman auction 379, lot 536

This specimen was lot 536 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,425 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"UTRECHT Provincie 1581 - 1795. Piedfort Zilveren dukaat. 1739, Silver Op dubbele zwaarte. Type III. Staande ridder met zwaard en provinciewapen aan lint. Kz. generaliteitswapen tussen jaartal. Kabelrand. RR. Zeer zeldzaam NGC MS62. (province of Utrecht, piedfort silver ducat of 1739, double weight, type III. Obverse: standing knight with sword, supporting the provincial arms on a ribbon; reverse: arms of the Generality divide the date; reeded edge. Very rare, graded NGC MS-62.)"

The SCWC does not list this design in piedfort format altho gold presentation strikes are noted (KM 93a). The auction archives show double silver ducats dated 1739 (shown here), 1772, 1774, 1776 and 1781; all are rare.

Recorded mintage: 209,800 of the single ducat.

Specification: 56.50 g, 0.873 fine silver, this specimen 55.97 g.
