This coin, called a ''huitième d'écu aux 8 L'', is the only issue of this denomination struck during the reign of Louis XV. This example was struck at Amiens. After 1726, tenth écus were struck to this weight and this coin probably circulated as such but it is rare today. Quarter, half and one écus were also struck to this design 1724-25, the last before Cardinal Fleury's reform of 1726 stabilized the coinage.
